Hi! My Name is Marianne Burns

Animation is an incredibly versatile tool to bring models and moments to life. As a creator, it makes for an engagingly immersive medium that allows me to share my own ideas and stories with others.

A lot of my inspiration comes simply from observing the world around me. This particular work came from contemplating the cycle of nature, particularly the growth of flora from seed to rot to the next generation, and fitting a more fantasy-style iteration to nature’s cycle of rebirth. The choice of 2D animation, using both Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, suited the storybook design I wished to convey to the viewer, with a softer palette color reminiscent of a sweet fairy tale. The story itself is about a small fairy devoted to raising a tiny seed bulb that she has planted, which whimsically encapsulates the theme of nurturing and growth.

I want my work to connect with a wide variety of people, exploring the simple yet inspirational aspects of our world that we do not often take the time to see, let alone consider, in all our material preoccupations. From here, I plan to continue exploring 2D by learning more about the 2D animation program, Harmony, and improve my ability to share my works in that way. Through my little stories, I hope to encourage people to slow down and reflect on the aspects of life that give it value both in the good and the bittersweet.
